You guys were right about not burdening Gatito with that choice. I decided to be a grown-up and call the other mother. We’ve met several times before and she’s always been super friendly, so it didn’t really make sense that we’d be excluded.
Almost before I could ask, she said the invitation was for the whole family and that she’d told her nanny to make sure that Tata extended the invitation to the whole family. When I told her that Tata had said it was going to be a small party, she laughed and said it would be just as small as last year’s (huge) party.
I don’t know if I want to know where or why along the line this party description changed. Ugh.

Hmm, maybe Tata just wanted to have Gatito to herself? Which is sweet, I guess, but the whole situation is kind of bizarre. (If the invitation was for all of you, why wasn’t it addressed to all of you?)
Oh well, I hope it’s a fun party anyway! Heh heh.
Good for you for calling. It’s strange the way it played out but maybe it was just a game of telephone…with salient bits of info lost along the way.
I hope it was a true mix-up and not a deliberate distortion of details. I can see how you might remain slightly uncomfortable.
This whole thing just sounds…odd…but I’m glad you called the other mother and things worked out ok.
I think Melissa is onto something there. That and I bet Tata is a *different* person when she is just around her other nanny friends and not around her employers, even though I know you are friendly.
If you read too much into it you are bound to be wrong (remember Tata’s pregnancy scare?). Go, have fun, and stop the ruminating.

Takes one to know one.
