Dr. Travolta is recommending IVF. With the state of my hormones (not just the FSH, but the AMH, which does not vary within and between cycles), the decline of my fertility will likely be quite steep. Between that and the fact that my infertility insurance benefits will be cut in half in January, there is every reason to start now and get into the December cycle.
He puts my chances of success at 20-25% per cycle, but says this number will go way up if they can retrieve ten or more eggs. The fact that Dr. Twelve saw a lot of follicles (though we don’t know what her definition of a lot was) bodes well.
Though the chances are low, I have to try. I have to at least know that I tried.

I think the reason your post bothers me so much is because it has to do with . . .well, me. Even though I am hopeful for you and know you are well-read, educated, and know your body to know what path is right for you, I pray to God no doctor ever tells me that is my last option because . . . . . I would be out of options. Not that he said it was your last option, persay, but your best option. So, I am still here cheering you on and secretly hoping you and I don’t have to do anything else extravagant to make us into families of four.

I don’t think those chances are low – they’re quite good, actually. This is a big deal but you’re a stong cookie and will manage it just fine. But still. Gah. It really is like you always knew it would come to this.

I agree with PP that these are good odds. New info is learned with each IVF cycle, how you respond to meds, etc. I will tell you what, though, many, many women get pg on their first IVF cycle. I did.
If you don’t already have a support network in this, I highly recommend the iVillage IVF friends, advice and support board. There are a lot of women just beginning IVf there and some who have had a few cycles. They were a great support for me and I have met some life long friends. I have known some for 3-4 years and many of us are meeting in Vegas in the spring.
