With the chiropractor having fixed my back in three short sessions, I finally did something I’ve been wanting to do for years: I went to a pilates class at a studio nearby. I did it a few times when I was taking ballet in high school, but the reason I’ve been putting it off in recent years is that I felt so guilty about spending the money.
It’s not a great time to find new ways to spend money, but I’m pretty good at justifying. All that focus on alignment might help prevent unbelievable back pain in the future, for one. And if I’m going to go through menopause early, it’s even more important to exercise regularly and maintain my strength and flexibility.
Last night was the first class, and it was awesome. I didn’t even mind that the only other two people in the class were teeny tiny teenage dancers. It’s the only workout I can think of where I’m not dying for it to just be over. It was challenging, but I was able to keep up and I’m pleasantly sore, but not in pain today.
This awesome studio has classes every evening and on Saturday mornings. I can’t wait to go back!
I think it’s ultra-important now to prioritize our spending, and a Pilates class is so great for your mind, body, and spirit that it’s a totally valid expense! Plus, it can save you from back, neck, and joint injuries and muscle pulls that may cost you more money in the long run.
