Galloping Cats

Gah! (Updated) November 27, 2006

It’s 2:30 p.m. Do you know where my nanny is? Yeah, me either.

This is the first time that she hasn’t at least called. It’s not that I want her to be in a coma, but I frankly cannot think of any other excuse for not picking up the telephone* that will enable me not to fire her, even though I really want to keep her.

* Though at the moment, she has neither a home nor a cell phone. Long story.

Update: She called while I was on the phone with my boss (at 4:00!) and spoke to my mother, who was here criticizing my housekeeping watching Gatito. L is in the hospital with an ulcer, which is a good excuse for not showing up, but a terrible excuse for not calling. My mom asked if I could call her back, but there was no phone number. She said she’d call me in half an hour, but that was three hours ago.

Ugh. Sorry it’s come to this. I know you really wanted to be able to make it work with L.

That doesn’t sound altogether honest. Hmmmm sounds like it might be time to move on. I am sorry.

That is so disrespectful, to not call. It’s utterly dismissive of you and your needs. And in light of your continued patience with her life and all its drama, it’s egregious. Hell, I’m mad at her and I don’t even know her.

Ready to take the plunge yet?

  13. Suz Says:

Yeah. She needed to call. I know that you’re trying to make this work, but she isn’t giving you much to work with.

Assuming that she really *is* in the hospital with an ulcer (which of course you should check up on) — then I suggest you cut her some slack for not calling. First, they generally don’t put you IN the hospital with an ulcer unless something is going really wrong, like lots of internal bleeding. Second, I got an ulcer when I was but a ‘teen, and I am here to testify that they can hurt like the dickens. It is very difficult to think of other things when you are doubled over in pain. So if her story’s true … geez, the poor woman’s had a rough day already.

But you should also let your pediatrician and your doc know. The bacteria, H. pylori, that causes duodenal ulcers, is communicable. (Which is why I got mine — my older brother had one.) But I hear they can do a blood test these days to check for the bacteria, should your docs think it useful.

  17. Irish Girl Says:

    I call BS.

Besides, it isn’t right to not show up to work without a phone call. Especially since she’s caring for a child!

I’m sorry you are dealing with this. How frustrating!

  18. You’ve been more than understanding to this point, but man this is ridiculous….
