Galloping Cats

Did you know that a llamas ears stand straight up when it’s happy? I learned this piece of information when I took Gatito to a local farm-type place today, which I did because L was out sick yesterday and today. (In case you were wondering, this particular llama was apparently in a bad mood.) When I’ve been to this farm with my nephews and other
babies or toddlers, they haven’t been interested in the animals, but
Gatito stared with his usual intensity and interest.

I remain amazed by this quality
of his and so interested to see what this focus will mean for his
personality as he grows. You know how one uses sleep time to review everything they’ve seen and learned during the day? I was theorizing today that the fact that he is taking in and processing so much information may explain why, at nine months, he still sleeps like a newborn,
taking 3 60-90 minute naps/day, always after 2-3 hours of awake time. This is on top of 12+ hours overnight! Crazy, huh?

As for my own focus, I found that I got more done during nap times than I normally do in an entire day. The truth is that I’m the most efficient person I know and in every job I’ve had, I’ve been bored because I finish my work too fast. I kind of wouldn’t mind if every day were like this: hanging out with Gatito and working during naptime. It was a little stressful, though, because I couldn’t be available for random times my boss might want to talk to me.

My mom contributed a few babysitting hours each day, but to give you a little picture of what that was like, she arrived yesterday with an announcement that she’d brought lots of reading material and plopped a newspaper and book down on the kitchen table. Hahahahaha. So it wasn’t much help yesterday, but today she was here while I was on two hours of conference calls. I heard a lot of screaming and crying in the background, but everyone seems to have survived! Here’s hoping L is back tomorrow.

Damn, you have got it good over there with the sleep. Forgive me: I am just a tad jealous and maybe even slightly bitter about the sleep card we drew.

Funny how everybody likes to explain their kids’ sleep behavior in terms of their general brilliance, though. I’ve been known to do the same (She has no time for sleep! There’s too much to learn!) I’m sure we’re both right :)

I am so freaken jealous of that sleep pattern I could die. I normally get three 45 minute naps. Once in a great while I get an hour and a half. And sleeping through the night … hah hah hah.

I’m glad for you though. You sound happy – yay you! Bitch.

Oops, did I say that? That was just the jealousy talking. ;->
