TV doesn’t work when it rains October 8, 2005

Can we talk, just for a second, about how much DirecTV sucks? We get no service when it rains or, for that matter, when it’s a wee bit windy. No curling up all cozy in front of the TV on a rainy day in this house, oh no. (And it’s supposed to rain all week!)

DirecTV also has the all-time worst customer service, in which it’s almost impossible to get a live person on the phone. A few weeks ago, my TV was randomly telling me that service has been cut off for non-payment, which was a total lie. I called DirecTV like a hundred times, experimenting with different paths through their robotic answering system before I could find the one that led me to an actual person. Who had no freakin’ clue why my TV was refusing to put out.

Separately, a few days ago someone from DirecTV called to try to get me to sign up for HBO.

Me: But I already have HBO.

Her: No, you don’t.

Me: Yes, I do.

Her: No, it says here you don’t.

Me: Well I’m watching it right now.

Her: Click.

Want to know why I still have DirecTV? It’s because the local cable company does not carry BBC America and we heart BBC America. How crazy are we? I’m thinking there won’t be so much time for TV watching in the pretty near future anyway…  How ever will my inner couch potato cope?

This is exactly the reason we opted not to get Direct TV. It’s amazing they can’t figure out a way to fix that not working in the rain crap.

    BBC america rocks!

We get the same crap with Dish Network. What kinda stupid system is that???

Just make sure you have a Tivo (or the equivalent). You’ll get plenty of TV watching in with a tiny, tiny baby; the Tivo saw me through many a marathon nursing session!

we don’t have any tv augmentation, but we do have a digital cable connection for the internet, and due to something that happens at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, we lose the signal then. is that not the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard? but the cable company swears by it.
